Addressing Settings
In order to send scanned documents from the mfp to an email address, the user must provide such addresses. The mfp's addressing features simplifies this process by auto-completing and searching for destination addresses. The Addressing page allows you to enable and configure the mfp to access addresses directly from the database of an Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) Server.
This feature is different from Accessing Addresses from a Replicated LDAP Address Book. In that case, the LDAP Address Book is replicated to increase Address Book access performance. However, since it may change periodically, the Address Book must be replicated on a regular basis. If you set up the mfp to access the LDAP Address Book directly, no replication is needed and the mfp user is guaranteed to always have access to the latest addresses in the LDAP Address Book.
To allow the mfp to directly access addresses in an LDAP Address Book, check the Allow MFP to directly access an LDAP Address Book box and provide the necessary LDAP information. Check with your LDAP server's administrator to determine the proper settings.
LDAP Server Bind Method
Selects how the mfp will connect to the LDAP Server. Check with your LDAP Server's administrator to determine which method will work best for you.
Anonymous - The selected LDAP Server does not require user credentials to access the LDAP database.
Simple - The selected LDAP Server requires user credentials. Note that the Password, if any, will be sent across the network un-encrypted.
NTLM - The selected LDAP Server requires user credentials and supports NT Challenge Response authentication. This option is not available on all mfps.
Distinguished Name and Password
The credentials that will be used to bind to a specific path (or sub-tree) in the LDAP Server. The Distinguished Name must be explicitly fully specified. It is recommended that the bind path specified in the Distinguished Name match the Search Root field. This will ensure that the relative bind distinguished name has sufficient privileges to search from the specified Search Root.
Domain
If NTLM has been selected as the LDAP Server Bind Method, a Domain can be provided. This field is not available for other Bind methods.
Note: If a connection to the LDAP server wasn't already explicitly established prior to the bind, the connection is implicitly established at bind time.
LDAP Server
The host name or IP address of the LDAP server whose database contains the centralized address book.
Note: Some mfp models only recognize IP addresses. In such cases, host names will be converted to the equivalent IP address.
Port
The TCP/IP port number on which the server is processing LDAP requests. Typically, this is port 389.
Find Servers
Searches your network for available LDAP Servers. Depending on the number of devices on your network, this process may take a few moments.
Find Settings
Attempts to determine the best settings for the specified server to search the LDAP Database.
Search Root
The Distinguished Name (DN) of the entry in the LDAP directory structure where address searching is to begin. A DN is made up of ' attribute=value ' pairs, separated by commas. For example:
ou=engineering,o=Hewlett Packard,c=US
ou=marketing,o=Hewlett Packard,c=US
o=hp.com
ou=engineering,cn=users,dc=hp,dc=com
Note: On some LDAP Servers, the Search Root can be left blank (in which case its root node will be assumed).
Mfp user information retrieval method
Depending on the type of LDAP server you are running, you might be able to use default settings for the email address look-up attributes.
Exchange 5.5 Defaults - Select this setting if you are connecting to a Microsoft Exchange 5.5 server that is running LDAP. The LDAP attribute values are automatically set.
Active Directory Defaults - Select this setting if you are connecting to a Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 server that is running LDAP. The LDAP attribute values are automatically set.
Custom - Select this setting if you need to manually configure the LDAP attribute values for mfp user's information look-up.
with the LDAP attribute of...
The attribute in the LDAP database that identifies a person in the address book. The value of this attribute will be compared to the person entered by the mfp user in order to retrieve that person's email address. The following are some, but not all, possible LDAP attributes:
uid - User Identifier
cn - Common Name
sn - Surname (Last Name)
givenName - First Name
email address using attribute of ...
The LDAP attribute that contains the person's e-mail address. The following are some, but not all, possible LDAP attributes:
rfc822Mailbox
Advanced...
Configures Advanced LDAP Server Settings.
Test
Tests the validity of your settings. This test can take a few moments to complete.
