This package provides a tool that will run in Microsoft Windows to update the
Micron Self-Encrypting Drive (SED) Firmware. This package is available for
supported notebooks that are running a supported operating system.

NOTE: This firmware update will reformat the Micron SED SSD drive. Please backup
the data on the drive prior to running this update. To run this Micron SED SSD
firmware update, the drive should not have hardware or software encryption
turned on.

ENHANCEMENTS:
- Reduces the time necessary for the system to power on (boot).
- Increases the number of user accounts available to 16.

NOTE: The Microsoft Windows-based firmware update and the ISO image firmware
update are now divided between two separate SoftPaqs.
FIXES:
- Fixes an intermittent issue which causes the the encryption key to be removed
and the hard drive cannot be be accessed.
- Fixes an issue where the system loses the SATA link which subsequently causes
an issue where the system cannot detect a SSD that is connected to the system.
- Fixes an issue that causes the SSD to become corrupted when the system is
powered off.
PREREQUISITES:
- To run this Micron SED SSD firmware update, turn off hardware or software
encryption.

HOW TO USE:
1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and
saving the file to a folder on the hard drive (make a note of the folder where
the downloaded file is saved).

2. This firmware update will reformat the Micron SED SSD drive. Please backup
the data on the drive prior to running this update.

To run the utility locally under Microsoft Windows:

1. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

2. This firmware update will reformat the Micron SED SSD drive. Please backup
the data on the drive prior to running this update.

To deploy the utility on an enterprise:

1. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

2. Go to the directory where the files are saved from the SoftPaq. The default
for this directory location is C:\SWSetup\sp61283.

3. Use the MicronSEDUpdate.exe utility in combination with the '-s' (unattended)
and '-r' (reboot) switches to deploy Micron SED SSD firmware updates.

4. This firmware update will reformat the Micron SED SSD drive. Please backup
the data on the drive prior to running this update.

To use the bootable CD-ROM ISO image:

1. Go to the directory where the SoftPaq ISO image file is saved from the
SoftPaq.

2. Burn the SoftPaq ISO image to a CD disc using a suitable disk image utility.

3. Boot the newly created CD disc in the system with the Micron SED SSD drive to
be updated and follow the on-screen instructions.

4. This firmware update will reformat the Micron SED SSD drive. Please backup
the data on the drive prior to running this update.

To make an unattended version of the CD-ROM ISO image:

1. To make a CD-ROM ISO that boots and runs unattended, make the following image
changes:

a. Open the file SoftPaq ISO image in a suitable ISO image editor.
b. In the ISO image editor, extract the file \BOOT\ISOLINUX\BOOT2880.IMG.
c. Open the BOOT2880.IMG file in a suitable DOS Floppy image editor.
d. In the DOS floppy image editor, edit the file autoexec.bat to add the switch
'--yes' to the line that calls the dosmcli.exe program. The dosmcli.exe should
be edited from 'dosmcli.exe --bus ...' to 'dosmcli.exe --yes --bus ...'.
e. In the DOS floppy image editor, save the new autoexec.bat file to the
BOOT2880.IMG file.
f. In the DOS floppy image editor, save the new BOOT2880.IMG file.
g. In the ISO image editor, save the new BOOT2880.IMG file to the SoftPaq ISO
image file.
h. In the ISO image editor, save the new SoftPaq ISO image file.

2. Burn the new SoftPaq ISO image to a CD disc using a suitable disk image
utility.
