HOW TO USE:
CUSTOMER NOTES:
This Intel Management Engine Firmware (ME FW) SoftPaq contains utilities and the
appropriate ME FW image file (.bin) to update the Intel ME FW to version
11.12.92.2222 on Z4 G4 Workstations. Also included in this SoftPaq are utilities
to report status and other information from the ME FW.

SPECIAL NOTE: Z4 G4 Workstations support either Intel Xeon CPUs OR Intel Core
CPUs, not both. If manually flashing the ME FW in a Windows or EFI environment
it is CRITICAL to use the flash utilities and the Intel Management Engine
Firmware (ME FW) image designated for your system. If your system is equipped
with an Intel Xeon CPU, you must use the utilities and ME FW image designated
for Intel Xeon platforms. Likewise, if your system is equipped with an Intel
Core CPU, you must use the utilities and ME FW image designated for Intel Core
platforms.

In some cases, the same flash utility will be used for both Intel Xeon CPUs and
Intel Core CPUs. It will be clearly documented if different flash utilities are
required.

This SoftPaq does NOT include a system BIOS or Management Engine Software. It
is highly recommended to update your system to the latest BIOS and ME SW. The ME
SW includes Intel Management and Security Status software, Serial-Over-LAN (SOL)
drivers, and Management Engine Interface (MEI) drivers. The latest BIOS and ME
SW is available at https://support.hp.com/

This SoftPaq includes two methods for updating the ME FW. The ME FW can be
updated in a Windows environment or an EFI environment.

PREREQUISITES:
1) Intel Management Engine must be enabled in BIOS. The option to enable ME is
located in the Advanced menu under Remote Management within BIOS setup (F10 BIOS
menu -> Advanced -> Remote Management). Please note, older BIOS versions may
only include a single option to enable the Intel Management Engine Interface
(MEI) device in BIOS. The Intel AMT option must be enabled in order to update
the Intel ME FW when only one enable option is available in BIOS setup. Newer
BIOS versions include separate options to enable Intel ME and Intel AMT
independently. In these cases, Intel ME must be enabled, while Intel AMT may be
enabled or disabled.

2) Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) drivers are required in order to
update the ME FW in a Windows environment. It is highly recommended to install
the latest ME SW from hp.com. (https://support.hp.com/)

3) You must run the MeInstaller.exe, FWUpdLcl.exe, or FWUpdLcl64.exe with
administrative privileges. If User Account Control (UAC) is enabled you may see
a UAC prompt when using the silent install options (MeInstaller.exe -s).


INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
***Update via HP provided utility:***

MeInstaller.exe is a utility provided by HP to help facilitate the ME FW update
process. The MeInstaller.exe utility can run automatically when the SoftPaq is
extracted (press [Y] when prompted during SoftPaq extraction), or at a later
time by executing the MeInstaller.exe utility from a command line terminal such
as Windows PowerShell.

MeInstaller.exe [-s|silent] [-?|h|help] [-r|restart|reboot] [-force]

-s|silent Updates the ME firmware without user input
-?|h|help Display help screen
-r|restart|reboot Will restart the computer after update is successful
-force Forces the install over the same version of
ME (allows)

Example:

C:\SWSETUP\SPxxxxx\MeInstaller.exe

A reboot is required in order for the new ME FW to take effect.

***Manual update via Intel tools:***

FWUpdLcl[64].exe is a utility used to update the Intel ME FW in a 32-bit or
64-bit Windows environment. The ME FW can be updated by executing the following
command in a “Run” dialog box or a command prompt with administrative
privileges.

***You must use the correct Intel ME FW image (.bin) for your system. Verify
your Intel CPU before proceeding.***

Xeon CPU:

32-bit: "FWUpdLcl.exe -f ..\11.12.92.2222.Xeon.bin"
64-bit: "FWUpdLcl64.exe -f ..\11.12.92.2222.Xeon.bin"

Core CPU:

32-bit: "FWUpdLcl.exe -f ..\11.12.92.2222.Core.bin"
64-bit: "FWUpdLcl64.exe -f ..\11.12.92.2222.Core.bin"

The flash utility (FWUpdlLcl[64].exe) and Intel ME FW image file (.bin) can be
copied to any available volume/folder within the Windows environment.

A reboot is required in order for the new ME FW to take effect.
