Chapter 29 EM3270 Messages

The messages in this chapter are sent by the EM3270 subsystem. The subsystem ID displayed by these messages includes EM3270 as the subsystem name.

NOTE: Negative-numbered messages are common to most subsystems. If you receive a negative-numbered message that is not described in this chapter, see Chapter 15.

1

process-name: Buffer address violation task # task

Cause  This message indicates an incorrect configuration or a programming error in the offending application.

Effect  An out-of-range buffer address is detected in a data stream from an IBM or Fujitsu host or from the Pathway/TS terminal control process (TCP) in 3270 mode.

Recovery  If the problem persists, take an EM3270 trace of the data stream in error.

2

process-name: BIND rejected - BIND-field task # task

Cause  This message indicates an incorrect line or logical unit (LU) configuration on the host.

Effect  A BIND response unit (RU) that has an out-of-range value in one of its fields has been received from an IBM or Fujitsu host.

Recovery  Check the host system generation configuration parameters of the subdevice in question.

3

process-name: Invalid function key map value: FKEY-index-value task # task

Cause  The user procedure was incorrectly modified, because a value outside the range -13 through 28 was returned.

Effect  An invalid index value has been returned from the user function-key mapping procedures.

Recovery  Review the user procedure code.

4

process-name: Invalid host access method or subdevice type task # task host host-name

Cause  This message indicates that an incorrect host file name has been specified or that the specified device has been configured incorrectly.

Effect  An invalid access method or subdevice type has been detected as a result of a host open operation.

Recovery  Review the configuration of the EM3270 emulator.

5

process-name: Opened host: host-subdevice-name task # task

Cause  This is a normal status message that is generated if the LOGOPENS parameter is set to ON.

Effect  A host device has opened successfully.

Recovery  Informational message only; no corrective action is needed.

6

process-name: MBCS conversion error: error task # task

Cause  This message indicates that a multiple-byte character set (MBCS) error has been detected.

Effect  There is a logic error in the MBCS handling of EM3270.

Recovery  Contact your Tandem service provider and provide all relevant information as follows:

  • Descriptions of the problem and accompanying symptoms

  • Details from the message or messages generated

  • Supporting documentation such as Event Management Service (EMS) logs, trace files, and a processor dump, if applicable

If your local operating procedures require contacting the Global Mission Critical Solution Center (GMCSC), supply your system number and the numbers and versions of all related products as well.

7

process-name: Buffers not available to start task # task

Cause  During the startup of a new terminal task, buffer space is not available due to configuration of dynamic system resource problems.

Effect  The task is not started.

Recovery  Check the DATAPAGES process parameter and adjust as necessary. If DATAPAGES is set to 0, indicating dynamic allocation, check the available free space on the disk used for this purpose.

8

process-name: Unable to find TCB to start task # task

Cause  During the startup of a new terminal task, the task control block (TCB) for the task could not be found.

Effect  The task is not started.

9

process-name: Task # task Tandem application closed

Cause  This message indicates that all current openers have closed this terminal task.

Effect  The task is closed.

Recovery  Informational message only; no corrective action is needed.

10

process-name: Fatal error: task # task - term: term-name fault # fault-num P= p-register

Cause  This message indicates that a task has terminated due to the fault indicated in fault-num. If the RESTART parameter is set to ON, the task is restarted.

Effect  The task is stopped.

Recovery  The recovery action depends on the fault indicated in the message. For more information on the fault, refer to the EM3270 Manual.

11

process-name: Task # task opened by term-name term: fault-num

Cause  A Tandem application open has been received.

Effect  A task has been opened by a process based on a Tandem application.

Recovery  Informational message only; no corrective action is needed.

12

process-name: Task # task started - term: term-file-name

Cause  A terminal has been started.

Effect  The terminal is available.

Recovery  Informational message only; no corrective action is needed.

13

process-name: Task # task stopped - term: term-file-name

Cause  A terminal has been stopped.

Effect  The terminal is not available.

Recovery  Informational message only; no corrective action is needed.
