Introduction ********************* This document provides the latest information about version 3.7.5 for the HP Digital Sending Software. ************************************************************ 2. Improvements and bug fixes provided with this revision ************************************************************ 2.1 This version resolves several known issues related to Novell Authentication when DSS is installed with specific versions of the Novell client (4.90 and later). In previous versions of the DSS software, if a message was generated by the Novell client on the DSS server when a user authenticated at the MFP (for example, a "grace login" message, or invalid password message), subsequent users would not be able to authenticate until the message was cleared on the DSS server. If you are using the Novell Authentication option in the HP MFP Digital Sending Software, we strongly recommend that you upgrade DSS to this version. 2.2 This version resolves the issue where the "Max Addresses" setting in the Advanced dialog for LDAP addressing was not retained when cycling power if the setting had be configured to "Unlimited." 2.3 When the Czech, Polish, or Hungarian language option is selected during the installation, in some cases, the DSS Configuration Utility would be displayed in English, not in the specified language. This issue is resolved in this release. ************************************************************************** 3. Improvements and bug fixes provided with previous revisions ************************************************************************** 3.1 We added the string "DOMAIN:username" in addition to "DOMAIN\username" to the matching field for configuration of authentication in this version. The field that contains the authenticated user's DOMAIN account is structured in this form in some LDAP directories. We made this change to provide compatibility with these other LDAP directories. 3.2 We provided NTLM authentication for the address book replication feature (Addressing Tab) in this version. NTLM provides an alternate to "clear text" authentication for binding to an LDAP directory to replicate display "name / email address" pairs to the address book. With NTLM authentication, the username and password used to bind to the LDAP directory are encrypted. In general, NTLM authentication is supported only by Microsoft LDAP directories. 3.3 We provided support in this version for Czech, Polish, and Hungarian languages. 3.4 This software is now supported in the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Advanced Server 2003 environments. 3.5 The Protocol Version Failure message that appeared in version 3.4.7 will no longer appear. This message was posted erroneously. 3.6 The Digital Sending Software now supports up to 250 mfps per single server. The previous version of the DSS (3.4.7) only supported 50 mfps per single server. The minimum hardware requirements for the DSS server has changed. HP recommends a minimum of a 2GHZ processor and 1GB of RAM to support 250 mfps. If the DSS administrator attempts to add more than 250 mfps to the configuration, a warning message will appear. 3.7 The LaserJet 9000mfp and 4100mfp can now be configured to access the address book installed with the Digital Sending Software. This address book can be managed with the Address Book Manager. The Address Book Manager can be installed by running setup.exe in the ABM directory on the Digital Sending Software CD. Note that Unchecking the " 3.8 The Digital Sending Software now supports specific configurations of Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server in a Cluster Configuration. The DSS supports Cluster Server in an Active/Passive mode. 3.9 The Digital Sending Software now supports per-job notification options for Send to LANFax. Users can now configure email or print notification for LANFax at the control panel of the mfp. 3.10 This version resolves an issue where a Divide by zero error or an mfc42u.dll error occurs when installing the service in Norwegian, Danish, or Swedish versions of Windows. 3.11 This version resolves an issue where Removing multiple mfps in the Configuration Utility caused the Configuration Utility to generate an exception error. 3.12 This version resolves an issue where the MFP hangs after an invalid attempt at Novell Authentication. 3.13 The User's Guide and Administrator's Guide are now installed by default and available without referencing the Installation CD. 3.14 LanFax Notification In version 3.0.119, the only option available for LanFax notification was "Action Determined by the MFP." In this version of the software, three new options are available: (1) "No notification," (2) "Print a notification report at the MFP," and (3) "Email the sender a notification report." LanFax Notification is not supported by all LanFax vendors. Note that NT® or Novell® Authentication must be enabled before email notification can be set as the default for a particular MFP. Note that the mfps must be upgraded with firmware later than 03.617.0 in the case of the 9000mfp and 03.616.0 in the case of the 4100mfp. 3.15 Pop up message after sending without Authentication is very confusing. The old message for un-authenticated sending is "Number of seconds until device resets." The new message is "Current send settings will be cleared in N seconds." 3.16 E-Mail file size limit is ignored when MFP is configured to send email with the "Service" method. Some SMTP gateways are configured to reject any email message over a given size. When configuring an MFP for an SMTP gateway with a file-size limit, if "Send Emails using the Service" is configured for a particular MFP in the "MFP Configuration" tab, and the "Maximum File Size" option is set for a specific SMTP gateway in the E-Mail tab, previous versions of the Digital Sending Software would ignore the Maximum File Size option. This defect is fixed in this version of the software. 3.17 LanFax billing code is truncated The LanFax billing code can be configured to contain up to 16 digits. In previous versions of the Digital Sending Software, the billing code was truncated to 9 digits. This defect is fixed in this version of the software. 3.18 Authenticated user's display name is not present in .hpf file (LanFax only) When the Digital Sending Software is configured for LanFax, and Authentication is enabled, the ##username field in the .hpf file contained user "GUEST." With this version of the software, the ##username field contains the authenticated user's display name, with the exception of when configured for Captarus RightFax, where the ##username field contains the authenticated user's Windows® NT or Novell account name. 3.19 Novell Authentication fails when second user authenticates The first user to login at a particular mfp is able to authenticate succesfully. When the second user attempts to log in, the message appears "Authentication Failed - Code 233" on the console of the workstation running the Digital Sending Software. This only appears to happen with Novell Netware® Client 4.3. 3.20 If the HP Digital Sending Service is stopped and restarted in Service Control Manager, the CPU usage peaks at 100%. This issue has been resolved in this version. ******************** 4. Installation ******************** Software: The HP Digital Sending Software is provided on CD when you purchase a required license code for enabling specific digital sending features. Insert the CD into the CDROM drive of the computer that will host the Digital Sending Software services. Select the "Install Now" button to begin installation. If the HP Digital Sending Software applet does not appear, run "Setup.exe" located on the CD. MFP Firmware: The 4100mfp and the 9000mfp must be running firmware 03.525.0 or later to support the HP Digital Sending Software features. The firmware is available from the following locations: - On the product CD-ROM in the "\firmware" directory - Available on www.hp.com: 1. Browse to "www.hp.com/support/lj4100mfp" or "www.hp.com/support/lj9000mfp" 2. Select "Download drivers & software" 3. Select "Not applicable" from the "Quick jump" list 4. Upgrade Information ************************************** Upgrading from HP Digital Sender Module: Licenses purchased for the HP Digital Sender Module can be used with the HP Digital Sending software. The settings from the HP Digital Sender module configuration utility will also be replicated. Follow the steps below to upgrade: 1. Do NOT uninstall the HP Digital Sending Software. 2. Install the HP Digital Sending Software on the same computer as the HP Digital Sender Module. 3.The installed licenses and settings for the HP Digital Sender Module are imported. Note: Record the 20 digit license key that is created for future reference. Support for legacy devices: Mopier 240, Mopier 320, 8000mfp, 8100mfp, 8150mfp The HP Digital Sending Software supports legacy mfps. A hybrid environment can be established containing mopiers, 4100mfps, and 9000mfps. Static Address Book support: LDAP address book replication is required for mopier devices to access a centralized LDAP address book. This functionality is integrated into the HP Digital Sending Software, and configured in the "Global Address Book" settings on the "Addressing Tab" of the Configuration Utility. ************************************** 6. New Features ************************************** 6.1 - Additional Fax methods Windows 2000 Fax – The HP Digital Sending Software will send faxes though the integrated Windows 2000 Fax system. Requires the HP Digital Sending Software be installed on a computer running Windows 2000 or Windows XP with an installed fax modem. Internet Fax – Allows the HP Digital Sending Software to send faxes through the Internet. Requires an account with an Internet fax provider. 6.2 – Novell Support User Authentication and folder access is supported for Novell operating systems. Requires the HP Digital Sending Software PC is running Novell client software. ************************************************************************* 7. Known Issues ************************************************************************* 7.1 - Address Book Manager must be installed seperately after the installation of DSS. The ABM installer is located on the CD in the ABM directory 7.2 - User accounts can be created in the Address Book Manager, as with the 9100C, but these user accounts will not be recognized by the 4100mfp or 9000mfp unless either Windows or Novell authentication is configured. User accounts are created in the address book when a user authenticates for the first time on one MFP. If an authenticated user manually types an email address into an addressing field in send-to-email, and selects "yes" to store the address to the local address book, this address will appear in the Address Book Manager utility under his or her account - Private Address Book. The Address Book adminstrator can delete or modify any of these private addresses. 7.3 – Novell username limited to 64 characters Novell authentication will fail if username exceeds 64 characters. ************************************************************************* 8.
