Use the Add or Edit FTP Site pages to add or edit predefined FTP Site destination folders. When you are finished entering folder information, click OK at the bottom of the page. If you do not want to enter or edit a folder, click Cancel at the bottom of the page.
Use the Alias Name field to type an alias (e.g. nickname or display name) for the predefined folder. This is what the user will see on the device. When sending a document to a folder from the device, the alias name is displayed as a check box selection so users can select where they want their scanned document to be saved. The alias must be unique for each predefined folder.
Use the FTP Server field to type the name or IP address of the FTP server.
Use the FTP Command Port field to specify the port number used to access the FTP server. The default setting (21) is used by most FTP servers for accepting commands.
Use the FTP Path field to specify the full path name on the FTP Server where the scanned document and meta data will be placed.
It is best to keep paths
reasonably short (under 150 characters) to avoid pathname length issues.
1.
Path lengths for FTP are limited to 256 characters.
2.
Only characters from the ASCII character set are preserved. If
non-ASCII characters are used, the pathname and filename may or may not work
properly. Symbols may appear in the path and filename that are not
recognizable.
3.
The path length needs to allow additional space for several
different elements that may be added to the filename. These include a file name
extension, an optional device-defined path (as specified by fixed filename
prefix), an optional folder name based on Username, and additional characters
(date and time such as 07192005190100) that are added when needed to avoid
duplicate filenames.
Use the Username field to specify the username necessary to access the FTP server.
Use the Password field to specify the password necessary to access the FTP server.
Click Test FTP Credentials to test and verify that the device has proper access to the FTP server and path.
It may take some time to verify the credentials. If the credentials are not valid, it will take significantly longer to return with an error. An error message will appear requesting that you make changes to the user credentials.
If the path is not valid, either the destination folder does not exist or the path name is too long. When testing path name length, the worst-case scenario is used, assuming the date and time need to be added to the default filename in order to ensure a unique name.
Use the Enable Default Filename Prefix setting to uniquely identify files that come from each individual device. Each device can be configured with a unique prefix. This can assist in tracking where a document is scanned, as well as prevent unnecessary duplication when two or more devices are scanning documents into the same destination folder.
To enable a fixed filename prefix:
1.
Select Enable Default Filename Prefix.
2.
Type a three-letter prefix in the Filename Prefix field.
3.
Click the OK button once you have completed all the settings on
this page.
The prefix will be added to the beginning of the default filename for every file that is saved to a folder. Note that the user is not able to override the fixed filename prefix.
Use the Meta Data File Format setting to indicate the file format in which the meta data will be created. The format is usually dictated by the third-party application. Please refer to the documentation with your third-party application for more information on which format to select.
