HP Hub-8U/16U Agent Release History =================================== HP Hub-8U/16U Agent Firmware Release Note ----------------------------------------- Product Name: J3133A AdvanceStack Hub 8U/16U SNMP Module Version: A.01.01 Description: Initial release Date of Release: 1/18/96 Hub(s) supported: J2610B Hub-8U J2611B Hub-16U ----------------------------------------------------------------------- HP Hub-8U/16U Agent Firmware Release Note ----------------------------------------- Product Name: J3133A AdvanceStack Hub 8U/16U SNMP Module Version: A.01.02 Description: Feature upgrade, providing support for IP addresses in "subnet zero", and in the "all ones" subnet. A.01.02 also includes several bug fixes, documented below. Date of Release: 4/15/98 Hub(s) supported: J2610B Hub-8U J2611B Hub-16U ============================== BUG FIXES (since last release) ============================== NMT3291: The denial-of-service attack known as "Land Attack" (source code "land.c" or "moreland.c"), causes the hub agent to hang, and eventually reboot. This attack involves a TCP SYN packet with the destination IP address equal to the source IP address. Such packets are now detected and discarded. NMT3395: If the hub agent is subjected to giant IP packets, (for example, giant pings), agent network communications can hang. This problem is now fixed. NMT3396: Under rare conditions with IPX traffic sent to the hub agent, agent network communications can hang. This problem is now fixed. ================================= ENHANCEMENTS (since last release) ================================= Feature: Added CIDR support To customers, this translates to the ability to set the subnet extension of an IP address to all zeros or all ones. Prior to CIDR, this was illegal and our firmware prevented it. An example of IP addresses now supported would be: CLASS B: 255.255. 0. 0 Default net mask for CLASS B mask: 255.255.255. 0 Commonly-used subnet mask IP address: 15. 29. 0.182 Zero subnet extension, now legal IP address: 15. 29.255.182 Ones subnet extension, now legal Also supported is the ability to set the subnet mask to a supernet value. This is a subnet mask that is shorter than the CLASS default mask. For example: CLASS C: 255.255.255. 0 Default net mask for CLASS C mask: 255.255. 0. 0 Supernet mask (fewer bits)
