Date of Release: 4/9/97 Hub(s) supported: J3200A Hub-12R, J3202A Hub-24R, J3204A Hub-24T Slot Card(s) supported: J3212A 10BT Switch Module J3138A (Cisco) Internet Router Module ============================== BUG FIXES (since last release) ============================== NMT1751 Internal inbound switch counters continue to increment even when the switch port is disabled. NMT2104 Upgrading agent firmware fails, when using the "downloader" utility. This happens in a Windows 95 or NT Peer-to-peer network with no servers or routers. Conditions are that the workstations are configured to use network address 0 and the encapsulation framing type is either set to auto or to something other than 802.2. The failure is unpredictable, because it may work sometimes. NMT2116 During times of heavy broadcast traffic or large amounts of unicast traffic destined for the hub, console commands on the hub may yield error messages or display no information. NMT2130 The agent fails to show hubs when more than 8 hubs are stacked together. NMT2131 Modem fails to connect with the modem strings that are listed in the manual, when using many of the newer modems that have long training times. NMT2133 When using modem strings defined as a workaround to another problem (NMT2131), the hub may not be able to detect that the remote modem has hung up, so the console session is not terminated. NMT2148 Attempting to disable auto port config from the console disables telnet instead. NMT2156 Communication to the hub can fail, using IPX with SNAP encapsulation. NMT2160 If the hub's SNMP community "Public" access is changed from "Full Access" to a different value, the hub will not function as a data collector for HP Traffic Monitor (EASE). NMT2186 With a single problem hub in a stack of hubs, the stack fails to initialize completely. NMT2300 Repeatedly viewing the Authorized Manager List causes the hub to run out of memory. NMT2406 After performing a large number of connectivity tests from the hub (link tests, ping tests, or IPX tests), the hub suddenly fails to send out any more connectivity test packets. NMT2618 The hub agent stops responding to network traffic when large IP packets (greater than 1500 bytes) are sent to the hub. The hub eventually reboots itself. NMT2678 IPX SNMP broadcast requests from an invalid network number can cause the hub agent to stop responding to network traffic, and eventually reboot. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- HP Switching Hub Agent Firmware Release Note -------------------------------------------- Product Name: J3210A AdvanceStack 10BT Switching Hub Management Module Version: A.03.02 Description: Feature upgrade, providing: 1) web-browser user interface 2) fault finder 3) support for DHCP A.03.02 also includes several bug fixes, documented below. Date of Release: 2/18/98 Hub(s) supported: J3200A Hub-12R, J3202A Hub-24R, J3204A Hub-24T Slot Card(s) supported: J3212A 10BT Switch Module J3138A (Cisco) Internet Router Module ================================= ENHANCEMENTS (since last release) ================================= Web-Browser Interface: Enables the HP Advancestack 10BT Switching Hub to support HP's intuitive, friendly Web-browser interface for: - Monitoring hub performance - Reporting problems local to the hub and suggesting solutions - Configuring several hub features - Diagnosing hub operation - Providing security options DHCP Support: Enables the HP Advancestack 10BT Switching Hub to use DHCP as well as BOOTP to obtain an IP address. ============================== BUG FIXES (since last release) ============================== NMT2687 Hub does not perform auto port distribution when an internal switch is inserted. NMT2689 When setting a hub (with an internal switch module installed) back to factory defaults, the hub displays an incorrect warning, stating that factory defaulting this hub may result in switch loops. NMT2841 Hub causes a duplicate IP address when: 1) Hub has assigned a specific IP address to a segment 2) Hub configuration is changed to IP "disabled" for that segment 3) Another device on the network is given that same specific IP address In this case, the hub continues to respond to ARPs for that IP address, even though IP has been disabled on the hub. Network devices detect a duplicate IP address. NMT2884 Hub reboots after repeatedly pressing the segment display button. (Only seen with a switch module installed.) NMT2991 Hub won't communicate to a device that is on a different IPX network. NMT3026 Hub will hang during boot, with certain serial cables and consoles attached. NMT3095 AUI port falsely reports link loss when the port is auto-partitioned. NMT3290 The denial-of-service attack known as "Land Attack" (source code "land.c" or "moreland.c"), causes the switch to reboot. This attack involves a TCP SYN packet with the destination IP address equal to the source IP address. NMT3296 If Eavesdrop security feature is enabled on a Switching Hub, and if the same MAC address is seen on multiple ports, the packets destined to this MAC address will only be forwarded to one of the ports with this "authorized" MAC address, and scrambled on the others. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- HP Switching Hub Agent Firmware Release Note -------------------------------------------- Product Name: J3210A AdvanceStack 10BT Switching Hub Management Module Version: A.03.06 Purpose of Release: Enhancement to allow interoperability with NetMetrix, and patches to resolve the bugs documented below Date of Release: 10/8/98 Hub(s) supported: J3200A Hub-12R, J3202A Hub-24R, J3204A Hub-24T Slot Card(s) supported: J3212A 10BT Switch Module J3138A (Cisco) Internet Router Module ================================= ENHANCEMENTS (since last release) ================================= NetMetrix interoperability: The SNMP agent now accepts "get" operations that require more than the standard 484 bytes of SNMP data. This allows the agent to interoperate with NetMetrix. ============================== BUG FIXES (since last release) ============================== NMT3380 Supernet addresses were not handled properly, causing the agent to attempt to route packets to hosts on the same supernet. NMT3402 An invalid IPX RIP packet caused the hub agent to reboot itself. The invalid packet has an IPX header with the correct number of bytes, but the "length" field gives a different (wrong) value. NMT3413 Console password allowed the user to enter only 14 characters, while the web-based interface allows up to 15 characters. The console now accepts 15-character passwords. NMT3414 Configuring port security could cause invalid characters to be placed in the authorized address field, if no address was entered. NMT3417 DHCP failed to accept packets smaller than the minimum BOOTP packet size. NMT3418 DHCP renewal timer bug caused the agent to incorrectly compute the expiration time of a lease. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- HP Switching Hub Agent Firmware Release Note -------------------------------------------- Product Name: J3210A AdvanceStack 10BT Switching Hub Management Module Version: A.03.07 Purpose of Release: Provide bug fix Date of Release: 1/6/99 Hub(s) supported: J3200A Hub-12R, J3202A Hub-24R, J3204A Hub-24T Slot Card(s) supported: J3212A 10BT Switch Module J3138A (Cisco) Internet Router Module ============================== BUG FIXES (since last release) ============================== NMT3426 "First Heard" port security did not function properly, related to the previous NMT3414.
